Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) training will be offered online on Friday, March 19, from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm Central time from UMN Extension. Instructors will be: Annalisa Hultberg and Katie Drewitz U of MN Extension, Jane Jewett, Minnesota Institute for Sustainable Agriculture and WillowSedge Farm, and Sara George, D and S Gardens.
Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) are science-based, farm-level practices for keeping fresh produce safe. This training is strongly encouraged for farmers who grow fruit and vegetables for fresh eating - whether that be farmers' market sales, farmstand, or CSA; or sales to grocery stores, restaurants, and distributors.
This training will cover information relevant to all aspects of the production, harvest, washing and packing of fresh fruits and vegetables including employee health and hygiene, water testing, manure use, wild and domesticated animals, and packshed design. All sized producers, along with gardeners will find information that applies to their operation.
[Note: This training does not qualify as the required training for compliance with the Food Safety Modernization Act – Produce Safety Rule.]
This training will be conducted via Zoom and Zoom links will be sent to registered participants only.
